PROGRAMS

Council of Ministries: Meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 P.M. at Trinity. This group combines the commissions of Worship, Education and Membership and Evangelism working together to coordinate programs, evaluate and plan activities and events which further the growth and fellowship of the congregation.

Charity Knitting: Meets on Mondays at 7:00 in the evening except for the 2nd Monday which meets at 1:00 in the afternoon for those who prefer a daytime meeting. This group was formed a few years ago to help others learn to knit and to work on a variety of charity projects. The group has made prayer shawls for members in need of extra caring, caps and mittens for the Salvation Army and for the local school children, newborn hats for the Virginia hospital, soft and non-wooly chemo caps wonderful heavy scarves and hats for the Seafarers and even warm wool helmet liners (special request) for the soldiers in Afghanistan. Members choose their own projects. A variety of patterns are available and the group's yarn stash is large. They also share their knowledge and skills with anyone who would like some help or to those who want to begin to knit.

United Methodist Women: Meets every third Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. The group has a Bible study and then conducts a business meeting, followed by coffee. The UMW helps with funeral receptions, and host an annual bazaar and dinner. The income from these events is used to support Emma Norton, Rainbows, camp scholarships for kids, missions, kitchen supplies and the Trinity budget. The group also supports the Quilters.

Trinity Quilters: Gives quilts to the confirmands when they are confirmed, the babies baptized in the church, Emma, Norton, the Christmas family, and the local nursing home. The group is blessed with receiving many fabric donations. They sell a few quilts to make funds available to purchase materials that are not donated. Along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary the Quilters made neck coolers that were sent to the soldiers in the war zones. The best part of the quilting sessions is the satisfaction of helping others, the fellowship of working together and the enjoyment of sharing the potluck lunch when the day’s work is done.

Outreach: Meets the least of any other church group but manages to get a lot done in a short amount of time. The A/HL Outreach team is made up of members from both churches. The group begins its year in March to start plans for the walk and may “spend” a few dollars left over from the year before. The Outreach Team has a Mission Walk in July that has been a great fundraiser. The sponsors get to decide where their money will go: Last summer the group raised over $1,100. A meeting after the walk to finalize the Rummage plans and they are good for the year. In late summer the team holds a Rummage and Bake Sale that raises about $800. The meeting in October is used to determine how to “spend” all but a few hundred dollars. The team helps to support the Aurora Area Food Shelf, Project Elf (local school program to buy Christmas presents for local kids in need), Range Women’s Advocates, Habitat for Humanity, Mobile Ministry, Compatible Technology, Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, Nothing but Nets, Rainbows (a grief support program for students), Harbor House, Sea Farers, and the list goes on.
